Look Closely, it's entertaining

One of my favorite things to do when watching TV is reading the fine print on commercials. It makes for some hilarious things, especially on weight loss products. The commercial says, "I took this, and lost weight" but the caption says, "Results achieved with diet and exercise. Results not typical, your results will vary."

This is one my favorites, it's a commercial for Lipozene, you may have seen it.

I tried to post the video here, but you'll have to go to the link.

I love the part where the pill floats down, opens up, and sprays the cartoon guys stomach, reducing fat. Underneath, the fine print says, "Dramatization."

There must be some really dumb people out there?! Really? It's a dramatization?!? You mean the product you're selling is not actually a huge pill that opens up and sprays my body with yellow balls making me thinner?! Woah, glad you had that caption.

There should be a caption at the end of those kind of commercials that say, "If you can divert your attention away from the flashing lights and pretty people, and read fast enough to finish this caption before we take it off the screen, you're probably smart enough to not need us to point these things out. But we're not trying to sell to you. Good day."

This makes me laugh. And it also reminds me of how Jen and I would joke about all the crazy side effects on some new medication being advertised. It's all fine and dandy, easing the discomfort of your allergies or whatever, and then in fine print we'd read: "May cause hair loss, leg cramps, stomach pain, or stroke." And then we'd always add "and possible death" at the end.

Ok, this is funny. Just today, I was reading the Frosted Mini-Wheats box (because that's what cool people do) and it says "Scientifically proven to improve children's attentiveness in school by nearly 20%". Then there's an asterisk next to it, so I searched all over the box, trying to find the matching asterisk. Finally, I found the fine print. Apparently the study was between kids who had eaten the Frosted Mini-Wheats and kids who had not eaten breakfast at all. Umm, seriously? Of course eating SOMETHING is going to give you better results. They could have fed the kids a bag of candy and gotten the same results. Ridiculous. And even funnier that it said "NEARLY 20%"- the number was actually 18%, but 20% sounds so much better, really.

Anyway. This was a long comment. Just thought you might appreciate this story...

Like this post. The find print always catches my eye.
As far suckers for informercials; my best friend always goes on about wanting to rid her weight by purchasing an ab machine. The girl has a masters degree and you would she was intelligent enough to first, read the fine print and secondly smart enough to know that gain a fab abs takes more than 20 minutes a day, 4 times a week ;)
