Yucatan!

For our 10th Anniversary/Valentines Day/ Because we wanted to we left the kids at home and escaped to the Yucatan for 6 days...just the two of us!

We arrived Friday afternoon and rented a car. It took us a little longer to get to our hotel than we thought because all the streets were closed off for...CARNIVAL! Man, we did not know our Catholic holidays well enough when we planned this trip. Just a week before we left I saw that Carnival is in February and then I learned it is the week before Ash Wednesday so I looked up when that was and it just happened to be the day we were coming home. So Carnival was going on the whole time we were there. Woops! But since we are not big nightclubbers, and didn't go into Cancun in the night it didn't affect us much. I guess we kind of did our own Carnival, I've been off soda for six months and Annie and I went off sugar for the two weeks before our trip, but we indulged a bit while we were here. Now, we'll have our lent and go back off them when we get home!

The hotel was awesome! We were at the Marriott Casa Magna in Cancun. We had a great view of the ocean and slept with our door open so we could hear the waves all night. The weather was perfect, actually they said it was kind of warm for this time of year but perfect for us! The water was the perfect temperature, not freezing like the pacific, we could have stayed in it all day. The hotel had great restaurants and a massive daily breakfast buffet with foods from all over the world included with our room. We stayed in Cancun and did day excursions to areas around the peninsula.

Aside from the trouble getting to our hotel the first day everything went perfectly. No issues with police or driving or anything. In fact, Quintana Roo and Yucutan are the safest states in Mexico. The goverment knows tourism is the #1 money maker so they try to keep it safe. It was actually kind of funny, there would just be random police towers in the medians, for what seemed like just a show of force. But we were relieved we had no problems with bribes or anything like that.
